The relaxation steps announced by the government today facilitate cultural events. For these, a closing time at 24:00 instead of 22:00 will apply from February 5. For theaters, opera houses and concert halls, you no longer need a current PCR test, 2-G applies here, as well as FFP2 mask obligation. As of February 19, 3-G applies to all events. For State Secretary for the Arts and Culture Andrea Mayer (Greens), this is an “important step toward normality for cultural life.”
Another new feature is that events without assigned seating are permitted for up to 50 people (previously only for 25 people). Analogous to retail, the 2-G rule for museums will no longer apply as of February 12. And just as in the restaurant industry, a 3-G rule instead of the 2-G rule will apply to all events as of Feb. 19.
“Spontaneous cultural visits possible again”.
“I am pleased that we will soon be able to spare cultural institutions in Austria the harshest of the measures currently in force,” Mayer said in a statement. With the later closing time, cinemas would now be able to play two evening performances in a row again as usual per auditorium, making “almost normal operations possible again.”
For theaters, opera houses and concert halls, he said, the withdrawal of the 2-G-plus rule from 500 people and the booster-plus rule from 1,000 people is a relief. “By eliminating the test in addition to the vaccinated or convalescent status, spontaneous cultural visits are also possible again,” the state secretary explained.
